And so it begins...

Alright, so here's the situation: I'm in Costa Rica. It's hot, the coffee is incredible, and my spanish is less than impressive. Whatever. I've only been here for 5 days... just give me another week and I'll be good enough to start writing tele-novellas. Te prometo.

I'm in a town called Esparza, which is NOT in the jungle like I hoped, but rather it's this smallish suburb off the highway that, due to rapid real estate development some decades prior, lies amidst a swath of land that used to be jungle. Got clearcut and now there's just dirt and asphalt and houses. Es un poco sucio y pretty reminiscent of any typical small town in Mexico - lots of colorful houses with wavy metal roofs and front porches of antique tile, patchy futbol pitches, everyone hanging out in the town square next to the church (biggest building in town). This week is la semana santos, the holy week leading up to Easter, so there's no school and I'll be spending my days off sitting in the rocking chair, taking in a siesta or two til the opressive humidity dies down (around 6). Then I'll probably head over to the town's (free) gym to jump some rope and impress any chicas present with my MASSIVE BICEPS (<--- hans and franz accent, duh) We'll see how that works out.

The town itself is actually kind of dull... at least so far. I haven't really met anyone my age, so I don't know what there is to do. I'm assuming there's a secret party house somewhere where all the babes are stashed away, dancing to salsa, waiting for me to discover their lair, but until I do it's rocking chairs, books, and Imperial. Boring! Whatever. Like I said, sólo han pasado cinco días. Cuando estoy escribiendo las tele-novellas, también voy a estar bailando salsa con ellas como un campeón.

Did you know geckoes quack? Yeah, well... neither did I. But they do. And really loudly. That's all for now.
